December 16, 2014 was a day I will treasure…It was the day I learned that Hardee’s still makes the steak biscuit… I love the steak biscuit with strawberry jam and an ice-cold diet coke. Ahhhh I am in heaven. I was so happy. Iowa, LA was the best food on the trip. Rabideaux’s and the Hardee’s steak biscuit. Life was going to be ok. So what if the Suburban was going to cost us a big chunk of money, my back was sore from being rear ended and we had just left all our grand babies and family back in Arizona…Hardee’s had a steak biscuit. We would have Hardee’s…Life was good.
After my glorious breakfast, I am sure Roy liked his too, we got back on the road. Today we were going to be traveling thru many states. We went through Baton Rouge and around New Orleans. Beautiful waters and lots of it. We made it to Mississippi around lunch time. I kept looking for the M I s s I s s I p p I River and on I-10, there is no river. There is lots of water and many rivers but none of them are the Mississippi. Being from Arizona this amount of water is just amazing. With California in a draught, they should buy some water from Louisiana, they got lots. Then again Ca. needs to learn how to make their coastal water into drinking water. Or maybe some of those folks should move to parts of the country that have water. ok, I am getting off topic..
On I-10 there is not much of Mississippi or Alabama. I will say the rest stop in Mississippi was beautiful and clean. I just wish they could figure a way to make those metal toilets a little warmer. Just saying…bbbrrr. I know we went by Mobile, AL but we were headed to Florida and the Naval Aviation Museum.
We stayed in Pensacola, FL. at a Mainstay hotel. It was a nice little apartment. If I were going to stay somewhere for any length of time it would be with this company. Nice, clean and BIG. We had a couch, a kitchen, a fireplace, big bed and a clean bathroom. It was space we both needed and it gave the cats their own space…thank heavens away from the cats.
Once the cats were unloaded we climbed back into the Jeep to find the Naval Aviation Museum. Garmin always takes you on the most interesting routes it can find. It needs to learn that there are some sections in towns that visitors probably should not be driving in. It’s just not safe. We found our way and make it to the museum. It was FREE.
The Naval Aviation Museum was wonderful and it was Big. They have so many awesome airplanes in those 2 buildings and so much history. You could easily spend a day in there just reading and looking around. They have a replica of a ship with a seek and find. That alone could take half the day. We found the dog and the photographer. They have the Naval version of the first airplane that Roy loaded bombs on, the OV-10 Bronco. I love to hear about his experiences as a young loader. I also enjoy learning about all the airplanes and the bombs, rockets and ammo they hold. He has so much aviation knowledge and how all the bombs work and what pin does what and sets off this. Makes going to the museum more enjoyable. We spent a few hours there and I recommend that everyone see it. Wonderful history.
Now we had to decide what we wanted for dinner. We weren’t really in the mood for a restaurant dinner, so we decided fast food. Why not Hardee’s? Well the Hardee’s was in a shady part of town and the staff was clueless. I just ordered a burger and Roy ordered their new bacon velveeta patty melt . The manager asked the guy in the back if he knew what he was doing and he said “yes”. Well, he didn’t. We took it back to our room with a stop at a convenience store for a couple sodas. Roy’s sandwich was not at all like the picture and mine was just ok. Back in the day we cooked to order. I hate food that is in the holding bin for who knows how long. I also don’t like to watch people make my food because then I know it has been in the holding bin and my desire for the burger is gone.
Back in the room, a little TV and some much-needed sleep.
How do you feel about food being kept in a holding bin? Do you like to watch people prepare your food? If so, is it because you don’t trust them? or do trust them? Do you really want to know if they touched their face?
I hope to hear from someone…
Happy Travels,
Kelly
