Total change of Close Quarters

This was going to be my travel blog and we have done lots of traveling since we moved to Georgia. We take drives all over Georgia and it is a wonderful state, which is why we have put down roots.

We bought a great place in Alapaha, GA. It is a manufactured house on 14.4 acres with lots of grass and wildlife. We have a pond full of catfish, bluegill and turtles. We purchased the property at the end of March and have spent many months cleaning the property. It had sat for at least 6 months with no care and no one to clean up the land. Roy has spent many hours on his favorite mower clearing the under brush from the trees, so we can see through it, and to eliminate any snakes. He knows I don’t do snakes well.  I have yet to see one and that is thanks to Roy.

Living in the country has been an adjustment for me, I grew up in cities with water and sewer companies, now we have a well and a septic tank.  Both need taking care of. Just last weekend we ran out of water in the well. Had to call someone out to drill deeper, mind you our well is probably 400 feet BELOW sea level. The farmers around Georgia are watering their crops and have left the water table really low.  Worst part is I saw a farmer on the news who has been watering his peanuts, saying he doesn’t want any rain. I guess he hasn’t run out of water, I spend my days praying for rain and to date I have not been lucky.  It appears Mother Nature is playing tricks with the rain, you either get too much or not enough.  We are in the not enough.

Another change in this city girl is I have become a pitbull dog lover. I have my one, Scarlett, and in a few days I will have my second one. Her name will be Madame Belle. I’m afraid people will think I named her for Belle from Beauty and the Beast but no, I am not a Disney princess fan.  I know there is no such thing as a knight in shining armor to save me and I have never been a princess. (Princess conversation will be another blog post.)  I want to say here and now, if you see someone with a pitbull, don’t be ugly and say rude things. You don’t hear me talking nasty to you about your dog breed. My dogs are well-behaved and very loving creatures. They would never hurt you intentionally. They might lick you to death but would never bite you. Now if you say something ugly to me about my dog, I might hurt you. I have found people are so miss informed about pit bulls. Give my dogs a chance before you judge. I was miss informed but I have learned that if trained well and loved, they are the best dogs ever. I used to be afraid of pits because I had a friend who had one and the pit was trained to be aggressive.  That was the only pit I knew till I got my Scarlett who is a sweetheart.  She is pushy and wants to be loved and that is a turn off for many. She made it hard for Roy when we went to visit our kids, she wouldn’t calm down. She has never really been around kids and they excite her. She would love little people if we let her but we keep her tied close to us because of her size. She doesn’t realize how strong she is and how fragile little people are. I guess we need to teach her to be gentle. Maybe with the new puppy in the house we can teach her.  Another good reason for a puppy.

I have spent the last few months getting our house in order, so if someone wanted to visit it would be presentable. All our pictures are hung and all the knickknacks are in place. Those who have been here, say our house is very homey and welcoming, which is what we want. BUT it is nowhere near finished and being the house we want it to be. I have rooms to paint and tubs to rip out, floor to install and porches to build. This would all be closer to happening if, we didn’t have to get a new a/c and all new duct work under the house. I keep thinking about painting but new expenses keep popping up, like drilling the well deeper. One of these days I am just going to go and buy paint and paint the rooms that really need painting, like my craft room and bedroom. Ok the rooms that are mine.   LOL  I just want to say to those that think I am DONE with my house and I have nothing to do all day. My house is not done and the land is a constant project.  FYI: leaving home for two weeks is hard on your plants and your yard, especially without rain.  Look at that we are back to the rain conversation…Let it rain!

That is what I have been doing while I was away but I am back now and there will be more posts from me, except when I am painting.

Thank you for reading through all this.
