Hurricane Matthew, Last Week & Belle Update

It’s Thursday and Hurricane Matthew has been on his way for a week. At first the weather folks said we weren’t expecting anything here in South Georgia. I on the other hand have not believed that, as I saw it heading towards the coast of Georgia. Those of us in Georgia feel slighted by the weather folks as they always forget about us when it comes to coastal waters. They act like Florida and South Carolina are some how connected. We are not North Florida. We are Georgia and we are proud!

We survived Tropical Storm Hermine and Matthew should be hitting us with the same intensity. We would really like more rain this time but that doesn’t seem likely unless Matthew takes a turn west, which no one is expecting him to. It is a hurricane so the winds from Nicole could push him that way, you know how women are. I have met a few Nicoles that were rather pushy. Nicole is forecast to head out to sea after hitting Bermuda. I think that is due to Matthew twirling in circles in the Atlantic. They say he may take a second try at hitting the coast but that is next weeks worries.  Need to get through the weekend first.

We have been lucky that both these storms hit on Fridays, so no one has to go to work. Well, Roy may have to go to work to input 100% accountability for his unit. I wonder what they will do in 3 months when he is not there to do it for them. I think we may have to change his cell phone number.  LOL

We are prepared for the storm, we have stock piled water, in case we lose electricity.  We have plenty of food in the house, we are low on alcohol but I am sure Roy will pick some up on the way home.  If all else fails we have peanut butter and crackers.

This week, I also saw my first snake, near my body. I was trying to get some dirt out of the ditch for my flower box and it zipped into the pipe. Scared the heck out of me. It was a black racer and those little suckers are quick. I only saw one but there may have been more. I am thankful I don’t know if there are more. I am not a fan of the slimy little suckers. Like mushrooms, I have no idea which ones are poisonous, so I don’t want anything to do with any of them.  I know there are people that will say just learn about them and then you won’t be afraid. Yes, I will. They move too fast for me and it freaks me out. One of the reasons, I was never a fan of the lizards in Arizona. Here in Georgia, I like the lizards and little frogs because they keep the bug population down.

img_4858Belle update: She is getting better or I am becoming more trained to get her out. I found if there is no paper in her crate, she won’t poop in there. She still pees in there but it’s less of a mess then before.  It’s because we now get up at 6 am.  I have got to teach her to sleep till 7. Her ears are still standing up but I am working on folding them down, she was so cute when they were down, like a pit bull.  She is getting bigger but not Scarlett big. Next Tuesday she gets spayed and chipped.  It is going to be tough keeping Scarlett off her for awhile.  I wish I could leave her at the vet for a few days, that’s what we did with Scarlett and it worked out great. We were on vacation when Scarlett was spayed. She was all better when we got her back. One of the smartest things I ever did.

Well that is all that is happening on the homestead for this week.

Feel free to comment good or bad.

  1. Hello Close Quarters, Very nice post. I must say I am really worried about the hurricane. This is a big one, I am pretty sure you are going to get rain. I pray that is all. I have finally learned how to glue dentures in for a few hours so I can eat some things. Get “real teeth” attached to implants around end a Ja. Seems like forever. Other than this stupid thing we are well. Hunker down, let us know if we can do anything to help. Love, mom❤️
